چکیده

Background Apricots, family Rosaceae, are economically important representatives of the genus Prunus. The number of apricot species ranges from three to ten, depending on the classification system adopted. The major obstacles to expansion of apricot production are irregular yields and low resistance to diseases. Compared with the high genetic variability in related species, apricots are not so variable and thus interspecific hybrids were proposed as a means to overcome deficiencies inherent in the common apricot. To estimate the extent of variation in apricot germplasm, between ecogeographical groups and related species, is very useful for planning breeding programmes, through diversity analysis, cultivar identification or marker-assisted selection.

Application of Random Amplified Microsatellite Polymorphism (RAMP) in Prunus Characterization and Mapping

Random amplified microsatellite polymorphism (RAMP) is a PCR-based marker which uses a combination of two classes of markers: Simple sequence repeat (SSR) and Random amplified DNA polymorphism (RAPD) markers. RAMP has been demonstrated to be a potentially valuable molecular marker for the study of genetic relationships in cultivated plant species. The objective of this study was to optimize the...

Karyological study of apricot, cherry plum and a natural hybrid in the Prunus genus “TANASGOL” (P. cerasifera × P. spp.)

constriction and staining properties by aceto-iron-hematoxylin were analyzed for Prunus species of apricot (Prunus armeniaca L.), plum (P. cerasifera Ehrh.) and a natural new hybrid known as “TANASGOL” (P. cerasifera × P. spp.). The obtained root tips from germinated seeds at 4–6 °C and young seedlings were pretreated in hydroxyquinoline solution with 50 drops of DMSO. All species had 2n=2x=16...

Phylogeography Study of the Siberian Apricot (Prunus sibirica L.) in Northern China Assessed by Chloroplast Microsatellite and DNA Makers

There is evidence that a band of dry climate separated plants in East Asia into distinct northern and southern groups. However, few studies have focused on the arid belt in this region, especially with regard to plants. We analyzed genetic variation in 22 populations of Siberian apricot (Prunus sibirica L.), a temperate deciduous species distributed in this arid belt, using two chloroplast DNA ...

SRAP based genetic analysis of some apricot cultivars

Apricot (Prunus armeniaca L.) is an important fruit species in Turkey with high level of economic value. Sequence related amplified polymorphism (SRAP) markers were used for the first time to determine genetic diversity and relationships among Turkish and some foreign apricot cultivars. A total 87 bands were obtained from SRAP analysis and 63 of them (73%) were polymorphic. Similarity values am...

Mining microsatellites in the peach genome: development of new long-core SSR markers for genetic analyses in five Prunus species

A wide inventory of molecular markers is nowadays available for individual fingerprinting. Microsatellites, or simple sequence repeats (SSRs), play a relevant role due to their relatively ease of use, their abundance in the plant genomes, and their co-dominant nature, together with the availability of primer sequences in many important agricultural crops. Microsatellites with long-core motifs a...
